Balwarren is a 30 acre working croft and has been owned by James and Hazel for the last thirty years. The original cottage dating back to the 18 century.
Once a small, heather thatched 'but and ben' the house has been tastefully renovated and extended.
Careful attention to detail has created a high quality bed & breakfast where comfort and a flair for the old and interesting blend to delight the guests.
James manages the croft in his spare time with reluctant help from Hazel who has a lifelong interest in herbs. The garden is her area of interest, expertise and joy. The herb garden is in the process of being moved to a new site.
Balwarren translated from the gaelic means 'homestead of the fresh water springs'.
A self taught cook, Hazel loves to use fresh herbs from the herb garden to create dishes to give satisfaction to the most discerning of guests at Balwarren Bed & Breakfast. She also makes her own jams, chutney, marmalade and bread for you to enjoy.
Both James and Hazel are interested in green issues and run the croft and Balwarren Bed & Breakfast accommodation on chemical-free principles. All ingredients are locally sourced and organic where possible.
